5 Best Universities in Australia 2022

The country’s higher education institutions in Oceania are the most sought after by international students to study undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Thanks to the nation’s attractiveness and the fame of academic centers. In the most recent report of ‘World University Rankings 2021’, the thousand best universities in the world were revealed, which are located in 80 different territories. 

The international ranking evaluated more than 5,500 higher education institutions, where six (6) categories were taken into account for their classification:

  • Academic reputation
  • The reputation of the employer
  • Teacher / student ratio
  • Faculty summons
  • The proportion of international professors
  • The proportion of international students

In the case of Australia, the top five are:

In the suburb of Acton in Canberra, is located what is considered the best university in Australia, called The Australian National University. The international ranking was rated with an excellent score in academic reputation, citation index indicators by faculty, international students, and international professors.

Globally, it is ranked number 31 out of 1,000, which positions it as the best in its country and as one of the 50 most outstanding higher education centers.

The University of Sydney was founded in 1850. It is known as the oldest university in all of Australia and the second largest in the territory. Regarding the evaluation categories, “it obtained perfect scores in the indicators of international professors and international students,” the report highlights. Internationally, it ranks 40th.

Melbourne University

The University of Melbourne is the second oldest university, founded in 1853, and one of the best in Australia. According to QS Top Universities, the institution managed to stand out for its academic reputation, reputation as an employer, and international students, which “represent 42% of its student population, coming from more than 130 countries.” Globally, it ranked 41st.

University of New South Wales

University of New South Wales (UNSW) is considered one of Australia’s most important educational centers. The Sydney-based institution managed to rank among the top 50 universities globally, ranking 44th. It obtained outstanding scores in most evaluation categories.

The educational center, University of Queensland (UQ), one of the best universities in Australia and the world, is located in Brisbane, ranking 46th. Nobel Prize winners, Oscars, and political leaders of the country have studied there.
