Test Optional Colleges for 2022-2023

You are currently viewing Test Optional Colleges for 2022-2023

ACT/SAT optional colleges for class of 2023. Are you looking for test optional colleges 2022? Or colleges that do not require SAT scores? In this article, we outline test-optional colleges 2022 according to the recent press releases that have come out from colleges and universities on whether they’re going to be test optional during the fall 2022 and fall 2023 application seasons. So if you are currently a sophomore or junior, this article will guide you.

Students planning to apply to college in the 2022-2023 admission cycle, that’s the class of 2023. If you’re going straight into college seniors, you can find the list of schools in the United States that have announced their plans for testing policies and requirements below. The most extensive amount will be test-optional, test flexible schools.

These are schools where you can still submit a score, which can potentially help your application. But you’re not required to submit it. However, some colleges and universities have still not announced their policies. Most of these schools are probably holding out because they want to see how COVID goes; the schools would like to see your test score. Also, they don’t want to require a test for people who don’t have access to the exam.

Yale, Cornell, Harvard, and other colleges have announced that they want you to send your test scores if you’ve got one. I also think that we’re potentially going to be entering a phase where we see a difference in admin rates, whether people submit their test scores or not. Obviously, during the pandemic, one of the biggest reasons people didn’t submit their scores last time was that they didn’t have the opportunity to take it right.

Test Availability has significantly increased since our last year admission season. And that’s probably no longer going to be as much of an issue, especially now that there is availability of vaccines, even for those under the age of 18.

Schools like Yale and MIT started adopting these policies of waiving SAT or ACT scores for 2023. If you don’t give any excuses and don’t explain why you didn’t send your test score, or you’re not from a context where test prep doesn’t make a lot of sense. So it might affect you if you don’t have SAT or ACT scores.

Do I need to take SAT or ACT for the Class of 2024?

If you are going to be a senior in the 2023-2024 school year, currently a sophomore, 28.5% of schools have announced that they will either remain test optional, test blind, or test flexible through that period. So if you have a phobia of tests, there is possibility to get into one of top colleges or universities.

Kindly note that over half of schools have not yet announced their policies for fall 2023 entry. So if you were in that class and were thinking about testing, we would still recommend that you prepare and try these tests. However, if you can prove yourself at the test, that can help you stand out against other candidates, and we recommend that you do so.

Reasons why you need to take ACT/SAT

Some colleges and universities will require test scores if your GPA is below a certain level. This is particularly true of state universities. For example, the University of Arkansas is test optional and flexible, depending on your GPA. So if your GPA is not that great, a test score could make up for that there.

Another reason is that many universities are still using test scores to qualify for scholarships. The University of Mississippi, for example, has stated that SAT and ACT scores are still significant for academic placement, scholarships, some aid programs. So it doesn’t mean that you should be throwing these tests out the window.
