List of WAEC Compulsory Subjects in 2023

These are the subjects that all WAEC candidates offer, irrespective of your department. They include:

  • Mathematics
  • Civic Education
  • A trade subject (Marketing, CCP, etc.)
  • English Language

In addition, English and Maths are essential if you want to get admitted to an institution. Some higher institution accepts a minimum of Credit in English language and Mathematics. So, take them very seriously.

WAEC mandatory subjects for Science students 

Below is the WAEC subject combination for science students in 2022. They include:

  • Physics
  • Geography
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Economics or Agricultural Science

Above are the subjects Science students must write and pass in WASSCE or GCE. Then any other four subjects to complete it 9 subjects.

  • Literature in English

  • Igbo/Yoruba/Hausa

Is Entrepreneurship compulsory in 2022 WAEC?

Yes, it is compulsory to offer a trade subject out of 35 entrepreneurship subjects introduced in 2011 by the former Minister of Education, Prof. Ruquayyatu Rufa’i. You can choose to offer Animal husbandry or Marketing as a trade subject in WAEC 2023.

How many subjects are required in 2023 WAEC?

The minimum number of subjects a candidate can sit for WAEC is eight subjects and a maximum of 9 subjects. Ensure that the subjects you are offering are in line with the subject combination of the course you will go for in the university or Polytechnic.

Note: They have no room to make changes in the WAEC subject after registration. So, be careful and don’t choose the wrong subject(s) during registration.
