Zero Tolerance: MOUAU Takes Drastic Measures Against Cultism

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and disciplined learning environment, with a zero-tolerance policy on cultism and other forms of misconduct by students.

During the 29th Matriculation ceremony for the 2021/2022 academic year, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe, cautioned the incoming students against indulging in activities that go against the extant rules of the institution, such as cultism, examination malpractice, and indecent dressing.

Prof Iwe highlighted the negative effects of cultism on the Nigerian educational system and emphasized the University’s efforts to combat the menace by producing books against cultism, which will be made available to the students. He also advised any student who may be involved in cultism to renounce it immediately or risk expulsion from the University.

The Vice Chancellor further informed the students and their parents that the University has a core mandate in integrated and coordinated agricultural education in Nigeria, as well as helping the country to achieve self-sufficiency in food and fiber production. The University has admitted a total of 6,802 students so far for the academic year.
